In Season 2 (Mugen Train Arc), we get to see a little bit more of 煉獄れんごく (Rengoku). The first episode of this arc is an anime original episode, and it is about a night before Rengoku boards Mugen Train.

Affectionate Phrase From the Grandma

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

あんたの身代みがわわりなら本望ほんもうだよ。

anta no migawari nara honmō dayo

I would be more than happy to sacrifice my life for yours.

This quote is by the grandma from the bento shop in the train station. It shows her deep affection to her granddaughter, Fuku.

なら means ‘in case that…’: X なら Y means ‘In case of X, it’s Y’.

When You Get Off The Train Or Bus

では、ここでりるとしよう。

dewa koko de oriru to shiyō

Then this is where I’m getting off.

煉獄れんごく hops of a steam train to get to where Mugen Train is, only to be informed that the train is in the special warehouse. He doesn’t want for the train to stop to get off.

「[Verb dictionary form]としよう」is a variation of the volitional form. However, while the volitional form is when you suggest/invite someone to do something (e.g. ‘Let’s do’), this one is used when you tell yourself what you’ve decided to do.

Hero’s Phrase

そうはさせん!

sō wa sasen

I won’t let that happen!

煉獄れのgく says this phrase to the demon he met at the train warehouse. Other variation of this phrase include…

そうはさせない: sō wa sasenai

そうはさせるか:sō wa saseruka

The Phrase For The Speed King

まえおそい!

omae wa osoi

You’re slow!

煉獄れんごく says this phrase as he slashes the head of the demon. This phrase can be interpreted as ‘You are slow’ or ‘You are late’.

You can use this phrase when someone was late to the class next time.

After A Sleepless Night

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

もう、今日きょうだがな!

mō kyō daga na

It’s actually today!

煉獄 finishes his mission to hunt the Slasher at late night. This quote is from when he tells his subordinate his plan to board Mugen Train ‘tomorrow’.

You can use this phrase when you pull a all-nighter to prepare for the exam.
