Demon Slayer

ちは。Welcome to Sakura Neko’s Japanese Study Room, where you can learn Japanese from anime quotes! Today’s topic is Demon Slayer (鬼滅きめつやいば / Kimetsu No Yaiba). I am sure many of you watched the Mugen Train movie and now are considering to get a Blue-Ray and DVD.

We will talk about 四字熟語よじじゅくご (yojijukugo), which are idioms made of four kanji characters.

You can often figure out the meaning of a yojijukugo by identifying individual kanji in it, but sometimes individual kanji meanings have not much to do with the idiom on a whole.

As you only have four characters to express what you want to say,四字熟語よじじゅくご idioms are quite creative and poetic.
