Today’s Quote
As Akaza was impressed by how strong and skilled Rengoku was, he tried to convince Rengoku to become a demon.
お前も鬼にならないか。
omae mo oni ni naranai ka
Why don’t you become a demon?
Vocabulary in the Quote
お前
Second Person pronoun ‘You’. This is a casual / rough version of あなた
も
Particle that emphasises the meaning of ‘also’. It replaces either は、が、or を. With other particles, it gets added to an existing particle. For example,
不死川さんは、おはぎが大好き。
Shinazugawa loves ohagi.
私もおはぎがだいすき。
I also love ohagi.
今日は、蝶屋敷にいきます。
I’ll go to Chōyashiki today.
そして、無限城にもいきます。
And I’ll also go to Mugenjō.
日輪刀で鬼を滅することができます。
One can destroy demons with Nichirintō.
日光でも鬼を滅することができます。
One can also destroy demons with sunlight.
鬼
鬼 (oni) refers to an ogre or demon in Japanese folklore. In 鬼滅の刃, it refers to monstrous,
immortal and supernatural beings created by 鬼舞辻無惨 (Kibutsuji Muzan), who is the main antagonist.
に なる (に なります)
‘To become’
に ならない
‘Not to become’
Grammar Point: Why Don’t You …
[Verb negative form] + か。
Why don’t you [verb]?
Verb negative form of 「なる・なります」is 「ならない・なりません」. Therefore, Akaza goes…
As he says 「お前も」the literal translation would be more like
Why don’t you become a demon too.
Example Sentences
Azaka said the quote to Rengoku using the casual tone. You can also say the same thing politely,

週末に一緒に映画に行きませんか。
Why don’t you go to the movies together on the weekend?
喫茶店でコーヒーを飲みませんか。
Why don’t we have coffee in the cafe?
